Some citizens have expressed support for the government's decision to withdraw Cambodia from the Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) cooperation with Laos and Vietnam, but they demand that Hun Sen release those arrested by the authorities for commenting on the CLV and review the land concession contracts with Vietnamese companies, including the cancellation of any border treaties that have caused Cambodia to lose territory to the country. Vietnam in the past or poses a risk to the nation in the coming days.
Chairman of the National Unity Democratic Movement Matt Vanny mentioned that the CLV-DTA cooperation is a national danger project, so the decision to withdraw Cambodia from the CLV project is a positive first step as the Khmer citizens' protests have gained momentum, making Hun Sen afraid of the opposition forces, threatening the power of the Hun clan family.
Mr. Matt Vanny: "We don't yet have confidence in what Mr. Hun Sen is withdrawing from because he is worried about his power, not that he loves the territory, is willing to defend the integrity of the real territory, we wait to see what happens after he withdraws from the CLV project. And other things that are related to protecting territorial integrity, such as immigration, corruption along the border, border enforcement, or any demonstrations happening in Cambodia, we continue to advocate for more."
Senate President and Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen has issued a statement on behalf of his son, Prime Minister Hun Manet, that Cambodia ends its participation in the CLV Development Triangle from 20 September 2024 onwards.
Hun Sen accused the citizens who oppose the CLV project of being extremist groups and claimed that they will no longer be able to use the CLV story to speak to the citizens.
In a reply message to Facebook users asking him to release the detainees, Hun Sen accused them of crossing the red line to overthrow the government under the CLV umbrella.
Human rights and social watchdog Seung Sen Karuna said that the reason why the government decided to withdraw the CLV project was only to protect its power, not to protect its territorial integrity and national sovereignty in line with the wishes and demands of the Khmer citizens.
Seung Senkarona: "Mr. Hun Sen, who stated in the story, we see that it is a confirmation because he is worried that the opposition party will overthrow the CLV and that the citizens or the public still have doubts that it is an act of dishonesty. And we understand that it can't be over, citizens should check deeply, don't just celebrate, and themselves are still in trouble, leading the country still doesn't think about the citizens, only thinks about the interests of the leaders."
In the past, Khmer citizens in many countries, such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, and the United States, have come together to hold a series of demonstrations against the CLV project, especially the two demonstrations in South Korea, which attracted tens of thousands of participants.
Pro-democracy groups claim that despite Hun Sen's announcement of Cambodia's withdrawal from the CLV, they continue to plan demonstrations or actions against the Hun Sen clan government to demand the release of all detainees, as well as to demand that the government restore democracy and respect human rights.
